Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Xerox 510 is actually for

Most equipment pages just tell you what a device does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We offer equipment for every business need, but the right machine depends on your specific workflow.

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a small AEC firm, engineering office, or in-house repro doing 800-3,000 D-size CAD plots per month.
  • You need 3 roll drawers in one footprint so operators can keep bond, vellum, and a backup loaded.
  • You print mono CAD plots up to 36 inches wide — schematics, site plans, structural drawings.
  • You're running FreeFlow Accxes alongside other Xerox wide format units (6030/6050/6204/6279/721P) and want a 510 in the toolchain.
  • You can take refurbished — the 510 is end-of-life new but supported via Accxes.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You bought the 510dp variant for occasional scan-to-network of as-builts — works, but the 6204 or 6622 is a stronger pick if scanning is primary.
  • You print 3,000-5,000 D-size plots per month — the engine handles it but you'll order toner and rolls steadily.
  • You use it on a 115V / 20A circuit — single-phase, fits most repro rooms without 220V wiring.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You need color wide format — this is mono only. Get an HP DesignJet, Canon imagePROGRAF, or Xerox inkjet plotter instead.
  • You print under 300 D-size plots per month — paying for a 625-lb floor unit and not feeding it; a desktop wide format suits.
  • You need scan-to-cloud or scan-to-email — the 510 / Accxes workflow is mailbox, network folder, or remote printer; cloud is not native.
  • You need print resolution above 400 dpi — line-art is fine, but raster image fidelity is limited; the 6622 (600 x 1800 dpi) is the upgrade path.
  • You don't have a service contract or refurb supplier — Accxes-era hardware needs hands-on maintenance.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Xerox 510 Wide Format Print System (and its 510dp Copy System variant) is a mono wide format CAD plotter built for small AEC firms, engineering offices, and in-house reprographics doing 800-3,000 D-size plots per month. It prints up to 10 D/A1 prints per minute at 400 x 400 dpi on roll media up to 36 inches wide (42-inch max input width, 36-inch image capture), with first plot out in about 12 seconds. The Print System variant ships printer-only; the 510dp adds an integrated wide format scanner for scan-to-network and copy workflows over FreeFlow Accxes. Standard configuration includes 3 roll drawers — operators can keep bond, vellum, and a backup roll loaded simultaneously. Footprint is 42.3 x 59.3 x 22.5 inches at 625 lb on a 115V / 20A circuit (no 220V required, which is the main reason small shops pick the 510 over the bigger 6050 / 6279 platform). Maximum monthly volume tops out around 400,000 sq ft. The thing buyers regret: 400 dpi is fine for line drawings but underwhelming for raster-heavy renderings — for GIS or photorealistic site visuals, the 6622 (600 x 1800 dpi) is the step up. We recommend the 510 to small AEC offices and university repro departments that print mid-volume CAD on a tight footprint and don't have 220V service. End-of-life new; readily available refurbished on the Accxes platform.
