HD-MB50D Document Printing System
The Quadient HD-MB50D is a black-and-white laser printer built for one specific job: printing election ballots and other secure, high-trust documents at 60 ppm, 1200 x 1200 dpi, with auto duplex. County election offices buy it because it's certified for vote-by-mail workflows and integrates with Quadient's broader mailing/inserting ecosystem. The 10.1-inch touchscreen makes operation simple for staff who aren't full-time printer operators, and the toner is a high-capacity bottle (HDMB5TNRKKK) sized for ballot runs. USB and Ethernet only — by design, since wireless on a ballot printer is a security and compliance headache nobody wants. The thing buyers regret: buying it expecting it to be a general office workhorse. There's no ADF, no scanner, no color, no Wi-Fi, and the toner is specialty-priced. If you don't have a ballot printing or secure-document use case, you're paying a premium for features (certification, integration with Quadient inserters) you'll never use. For a county elections office, vote-by-mail vendor, or secure-document print operation, it's the right tool. For anything else, look at a cheaper Brother, HP, or Lexmark monochrome.
