The Xerox Color 550 is the entry point of the Color 550/560/570 family — a floor-standing A3/SRA3 color laser multifunction printer for small in-plants, marketing departments, and quick-print operations printing 10,000-50,000 color pages a month. It runs 50 ppm color and 55 ppm B&W at letter/A4, with 25 ppm color / 30 ppm B&W at 11x17/A3, and a 300,000-page monthly duty cycle. Print resolution is 2400 x 2400 dpi using Xerox EA toner with Ultra Low Melt Technology. The 250-sheet DADF copies and scans up to A3 at 50 ppm color / 75 ppm B&W in copy mode (80 ppm B&W in network scan). Standard paper capacity is 3,260 sheets across the 250-sheet bypass plus four trays (Tray 1: 500, Tray 2: 500, Tray 3: 870, Tray 4: 1,140), with a 7,260-sheet ceiling using the optional 2-tray Oversized High Capacity Feeder. Sheets from 4 x 6 inches (bypass) up to 13 x 19 inches / SRA3, weights 64-300 gsm coated and uncoated, auto duplex up to 220 gsm. Choose between the built-in Xerox Integrated Color Server, optional Xerox Integrated Fiery Color Server, EX Print Server (Fiery, external), or Xerox FreeFlow Print Server (external). Finishing is modular — Offset Catch Tray, Advanced Finisher, Professional Finisher, Standard Finisher with Booklet Maker, GBC AdvancedPunch, SquareFold Trimmer Module, C/Z Folder. Footprint is 62 x 31.6 x 54.8 inches base unit (~604 lb). The thing buyers regret: choosing the Color 550 when the workflow really needs a production press. The 550 is an MFP first, a press second — if you're doing serious offset replacement work for clients, step up to the Color 770 or Color 800/1000 with a real FreeFlow workflow.
