Skip this if...

  • You print under 10,000 pages a month — you're paying for a 55 ppm enterprise floor MFP with a 300,000-page duty cycle and using maybe 15% of it. Drop down to the EC7836 (35 ppm, 110,000 duty cycle).
  • You need wireless out of the box — wireless is the optional USB adapter, not standard.
  • You don't have a Xerox managed print or eConcierge relationship — the metered toner program (006R01509-12) is sold through service contracts, not retail.
  • You don't have the floor space — base unit is 41.9 x 27.5 x 45.2 inches and 321 lb. With Office Finisher LX and Booklet Maker it grows to 65.6 x 27.9 x 45.2 inches and 403 lb.
  • You only print mono — at this volume the dedicated mono Xerox AltaLink B8055 is a better fit.

The Xerox WorkCentre EC7856 is the top-speed model in the eConcierge WorkCentre EC line — a floor-standing A3 color laser multifunction built on Xerox ConnectKey 2.0i with hardened enterprise security (McAfee Embedded Control whitelisting, FIPS 140-2, 256-bit disk encryption, CAC/PIV/.NET smart card auth, Common Criteria). It prints up to 55 ppm black and 50 ppm color on letter or A4, copies at the same speed, scans at 133 ipm through the 130-sheet single-pass duplex ADF, and is rated for a 300,000-page monthly duty cycle (Xerox recommends 18,000-22,000 pages/month for the right toner economics). Standard paper capacity is 620 sheets across the 520-sheet Tray 1 and 100-sheet bypass; the high-capacity tandem tray plus optional HCF pushes total to 5,140 sheets. The 7-inch ConnectKey color touchscreen runs the App Gallery and 5,000-contact unified address book. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus USB 2.0; Wi-Fi Direct is optional via the Xerox USB Wireless Adapter. Print resolution is up to 1200 x 2400 dpi with PostScript 3 standard. The thing buyers regret: scoping this for a small workgroup. At under 10,000 pages a month, the per-page cost is genuinely worse than the EC7836 because you're amortizing a much beefier chassis over too few pages. If your real volume is 8,000-15,000 pages, the EC7836 is the right choice.
