  • You only scan one-sided originals and don't mind flipping the stack — the MX331's simplex ADF handles it, just slower than the MX431.
  • You want wireless on the MX331 — it ships wired-only; you'll need to step up to the MX431adwe variant or add a print server.
  • You're replacing a Brother MFC-L2750DW or similar — the Lexmark touchscreen is smaller (2.8") but the print engine is faster and the toner yield is higher with the 20K extra-high-yield cartridge.

The MX331 runs 40 ppm with a 50,000-page monthly duty cycle and a simplex ADF; the MX431 steps up to 42 ppm, an 80,000-page duty cycle, and a single-pass dual-head ADF that scans both sides at 92-96 images per minute — the upgrade is worth it if you scan stacks. Standard paper capacity is 350 sheets in the tray plus a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, expandable to 900 sheets with the optional 550-sheet drawer. Resolution is 2400 IQ for both print and the 2.8-inch color touchscreen handles copy, scan, fax, and basic walk-up jobs without much training.
